Would you rather live next door to a doctor or a plumber?

Practical qualifications have trumped degrees in the latest research, which has revealed that Brits would rather live next door to a plumber than a doctor1.

Education charity Edge Foundation produced the report to mark VQ Day 2015, the annual celebration of vocational qualifications, discovering that plumbers are the most highly desired neighbour occupation.

The Top 10 list also featured other practically skilled neighbours, including electricians, builders, carpenters and mechanics.

Why are plumbers the ideal neighbour?

The Edge Foundation’s report found that nearly half of the population had required practical help over the past twelve months, with the majority (56%) inclined to turn to a neighbour for help.

Over the year, almost a third of respondents had suffered a plumbing problem, including blocked drains and radiator issues.

When questioned about specific scenarios in which a plumber neighbour would be most appreciated, a quarter said they would ask for assistance in the event of boiler breakdown, whilst a fifth would knock on their neighbour’s door if sink or drain blockage occurred.

Don’t live next door to a plumber?

The best thing you can do is find a trustworthy plumbing company in your neighbourhood.

By having a local plumbing company on call, it’ll be easier to arrange a quick call out in an emergency.

You’ll also gain access to a larger pool of plumbers and plumbing tools, meaning a high standard solution can be provided efficiently.
